Downstairs at Actors is Definitely Not Dark

By Jean Metcalfe

Although the regular season of plays at Actors Theatre of Louisville has ended, entertainment is still on the menu at Downstairs at Actors. Make no mistake about it.

"We're open all through the summer," says Julie Metzinger, general manager of the pleasant and cozy restaurant/bar at 316 West Main Street. Getting this message out to the public is very important to the success of the establishment; seems most folks just assume that when the renowned theater upstairs is on summer hiatus the restaurant/bar is as well.

A partial list of the entertainers who appeared there in June includes Ron Hayden, Henry & the Noisemakers, and Turley Richards. Reid Jahn (The Village Green) is scheduled for June 30 and July 1. Additionally, as we go to press, enthusiastic booking person Melinda Piorkowski has scheduled Grammer Evans & Webster's Nightmare as well as a return engagement of The Ron Hayden Group, jazz and blues artists, during the month of July. Other exciting performers will be added for the month. If you haven't heard all of the excellent entertainers listed, a visit to Downstairs at Actors will provide a great opportunity for you to remedy that sorry state of affairs.

Lunch as well as dinner is available at the restaurant/bar, and reservations may be made by calling (502) 584-1205.

Yes, indeed, it definitely is not dark at Downstairs at Actors this summer. Why not brighten up several of your summer evenings by planning a visit to its cool, pleasant surroundings. The food and the ambiance are excellent; the room feels very airy and comfortable, and there is frequently an art exhibit in place on the exposed brick walls.
