Mom's Wins Community Service Award at NAMM Show

By Paul M. Moffett

Marvin Maxwell, owner of Mom's Musician's General Store, just returned from Chicago, where he attended the National Association of Music Merchants/Manufacturers (NAMM) midyear trade show. While there, he attended the NAMM Entertainment and Awards Banquet, where Mom's was honored with the award for the Best Community Service Program, for the Musician's Emergency Relief Fund (MERF).

The award is for community service by a retail store, which can occur in several ways, including helping a community band and giving to local organizations. There were four national finalists for this award. Maxwell noted that he was unaware that Mom's had even been nominated for the award until just before the trip.

In spite of his considerable stage experience, Maxwell commented that his hands were shaking and his mouth was dry while receiving the award at the forty-dollar a plate event, held at the Palmer House Hotel. Featured entertainment included Paul Schaefer and the World's Most Dangerous Band.
