U Of L Gospel Music Workshop To Emphasize Commitment, Discipline

The University of Louisville's Black Diamond Choir is teaming up with two Louisville churches for a weekend of joyful music.

U of L's second annual gospel music workshop will be conducted November 3 and 4 at several locations.

The Office of Minority Services is sponsoring the $3 workshop, which will include topics such as attitudes and commitment, choir decorum and introduction to new music.

Registration and the first session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively, Friday, November 3, at First Gethsemane Baptist Church, 1159 Algonquin Parkway.

On Saturday, the singing begins anew at 9:00 a.m. in Bingham Humanities Building on U of L's Belknap Campus. After a 1:00 p.m. lunch break, a dress rehearsal for the evening concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Green Street Baptist Church, 519 E. Gray St.

The workshop finale is a 7:30 p.m. concert Saturday at Green Street Baptist Church. The public concert is free.

Brenda Waters, music educator at Antioch Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio, and William "Chipper" Smith Jr., music minister at Jerriel Baptist Church in Cincinnati, will lead the workshop.
