Louisville Orchestra and Ben Vereen

By Joyce Trammell

There are some sights and sounds in the music world that you simply cannot forget. For me, one such instance was Ben Vereen's performance of his opening number in "Jesus Christ Superstar."

On October 28 Mr. Vereen will display his considerable talent in a performance with the Louisville Orchestra when it presents its first of four Yellowstone Super Pops concerts at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

Vereen's bio lists Broadway appearances in "Sweet Charity," "Hair," and "Pippin." His talent has earned him awards such as "Entertainer of the Year," "Rising Star" and "Song and Dance Star" from the American Guild of Variety Artists.

Ben Vereen

Not many of us can forget his portrayal of "Chicken George" in "Roots." And his network special, "Ben Vereen - His Roots," won seven Emmy awards.

Ben Vereen is a humanitarian. He has been honored with the following awards: Israel's Cultural Award, Israel's Humanitarian Award, The Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award and the NAACP's Image Award.

Seldom has any entertainer left his in such an array of media with the brilliance of Ben Vereen.
