"True Country Radio "

By Dallas Embry

WWKY is the new kid on the block. This, the latest country station in Louisville, can be found at 790 on your AM dial twenty-four hours a day, playing "forty years of classic country music" in AM stereo. Although I'm not sure I agree with the "classic" claim, I do like the music they they play. You can hear Kitty Wells, Jimmy Rodgers, Hank Snow, Norman Blake and Dave Dudley, as well as more contemporary artists. They're the only station that I know of that plays a lot of "B" sides and some of the more obscure cuts of some of the more well-known artists. They don't always announce what they're playing, which I at first found an annoyance, but I've grown to enjoy that, especially when I hear something that causes me to go "Ah ha! I remember now!"
