WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS!

By Diana Black

We are so happy to see our membership continue to grow! Joining the Co-op since the August issue are Les Langford, Kenneth Scott Furlong, Paul Voris, Gary "Doc" Dockery, Jamie Doss, and Michael Stites. They have received member numbers 260-265, respectively.

Before I give you some background on the above mentioned new members, I would like to tell you a little about Terri Swartz who joined on the spot at our July 17th meeting. (Sorry for the misspelling on your name last issue, Terri!) Terri likes any kind of love song, but says country is where her heart is. She is currently writing lyrics as she has limited experience on guitar and piano. She would very much like to find a collaborator who could help with melodies and arranging.

Les Langford is busy writing all styles of music. He plays guitar and has performed "off and on the last 20 years." We are so glad to hear Les is interested in helping the Co-Op with advertising, distribution, fund raising, performing and "any way else needed."

Scott Furlong plays quite a list of instruments: guitar, harmonica, piano, trumpet, and bass. He has performed on stage, but unfortunately I do not have any details about that. Scott writes many styles of music including classical, pop and folk and is interested in finding a collaborator. Again, we are thrilled he has offered to help out with advertising, distribution and performing.

Paul Voris is a disk jockey at WORX in Madison, Indiana. Paul is not currently writing, but very much wants to learn all he can about writing all kinds of music (jazz and rock, however, get top billing). He has performed as a musician with his own band and several school bands. The list of instruments he is skilled at include sax, clarinet and keyboard. Paul would like to perform and possibly help with board and sound equipment for the L.A.S.C.

Gary "Doc" Dockery has quite a musical background, having been the leader of several local bands such as the Doc & Smitty Band. He has co-engineered and produced at Fultz, Artec, and Derby Sound Studios. I'm sure he is excited about the new album he recently recorded at Artec in Salem, Indiana! Doc writes mostly in a contemporary country vein and has expressed an interest in collaboration. We also very much welcome his offer to perform and assist with advertising.

Jamie Doss says she loves to sing country music. She has been singing since the age of 10 in choirs and for friends. Jamie does not play an instrument but is very interested in taking lessons so she will then be able to put music to her lyrics. She is also interested in collaboration, especially with someone who could help her with melodies.

Michael Stites is co-owner of Artec studio in Salem, Indiana. Mike has graciously offered his studio to the Co-op for producing one of the winning songs in our songwriting contest. (See membership meeting news for info on his studio.) Mike is currently writing and publishing, and his involvement with the studio and various aspects of the music industry keep him quite busy.

Again, I want to welcome the new members! If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (502) 893-0693 and I will be happy to help in any way I can. Also, I would like to mention that anyone interested in joining L.A.S.C. or wanting more information about the organization is welcome to call me at the above number and I will be glad to answer questions and/or forward a membership application.
