Dreamwriters' Songwriting Seminar

By Diana Black

Dreamwriters, Inc., from Springfield, Tenn., held a one day seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 19th, at the Executive Inn in Owensboro, Ky. Although attendance was not up to expectations, the organizers of this event approached the day with one purpose in mind: if they helped even one songwriter, the day would be more than worth their effort.

The organizers of the Dreamwriters seminar were Helen Harp, Secretary, Jean Chamberlain, President and Don Harp, C.E.O. The featured speaker was David Chamberlain, writer of George Strait's number one hits, "Am I Blue" and "What's Going On In Your World." Panelists included Maggie Cavendar, Sherrill Blackman and Wanda Collier, all from Nashville.

The morning session allowed those attending to ask questions on all aspects of the music industry. After a break for lunch, Chamberlain explained his method of songwriting and then individually critiqued one song per seminar attendant. A spontaneous, informal songwriters' showcase closed the day's activities.

Dreamwriters, Inc. is scheduling future seminars featuring David Chamberlain's method of songwriting.
