Children's Music Workshop to Feature John McCutcheon

The Learning Choice Schools have announced plans for a Children's Music Workshop, May 10 and ll, 1990, featuring John McCutcheon, a nationally known folk artist, and the Visual & Performing Arts Schools; Participating schools are Cochran Elementary, King Elementary, Sanders Elementary, Noe Middle and Youth Performing Arts School.

McCutcheon will have a talk session with the students at Youth Performing Arts School at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 10. He will work with the children at King Elementary that afternoon beginning at 12:30. On Friday, May ll, he will be at Sanders Elementary from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. That aftemoon, Cochran Elementary and Noe Middle School students will participate, as an audience, in taping a radio broadcast for Louisville Home Performances on WFPL 89.3 from the Youth Performing Arts School Theatre at 1.

Students from each of the Visual & Performing Arts Schools will be auditioning for parts in the broadcast. As a component of the audition, the high-school and middle-school students will make demo tapes.

John McCutcheon, a traditional folk musician and hammer dulcimer player, has produced award-winning, best-selling albums that have redefined what "folk music" is for children. Not satisfied with being merely a performer, McCutcheon teaches his audiences at the same time. His performances have been sold-out hits throughout the world.
