Duck Butter Blues Band Live at Picasso's February 2

By Marc Hayes

You're probably asking yourself, "Who is the Duck Butter "Blues Band?" Well, the Duck Butter Blues Band is a top-notch cover band with a regional superstar line-up. At the heart of the group is Sam Bush of New Grass Revival.

In this line-up Sammy's chores include lead vocals and electric guitar. Mr. Bush isn't the only hotshot in the group either; take a look at the rest of the line-up: Al Kooper on keyboards and guitar (formerly of Blood, Sweat and Tears, Al also produced Lynyrd Skynyrd's first two albums); Byron House on bass and vocals (of the now-defunct Foster & Lloyd); Ken Smith on vocals and guitar; and Jeff Jones on drums (both of The Ken Smith Band). Michael Gough (of The Michael Gough Group) joined Duck Butter on vocals throughout the evening.

Duck Butter doesn't do anything obscure; they cover the same songs that most blues-based bands cover. On this particular Saturday night, songs on the playlist included "Statesboro Blues," "Crossroads," "Foo1 For Your Stockings," "Dust My Broom," "Hi-Heel Sneakers" and "Red House." But what sets Duck Butter apart from just another cover band is pure talent and professionalism. While Duck Butter is on stage everyone in the house has a smile ontheir face.

The Duck Butter Blues Band plays only at Picasso's, 425 East Eight Street, in Bowling Green, Ky.
