SAM MYWILL'N'EDDIE

By Karen LeVan

It went from bluegrass to new grass and now let's just call it "blues grass," but whatever you want to call it, the packed house at Air Devils Inn on Saturday, February 23, called it fantastic!

They filled Air Devils, waiting to hear three middle-aged uppity blues women, but the warm-up act before Saffire really set the place on fire. Instead they got three not-so-middle-aged low-down bluesgrass boys.

Will Perryman and Eddie Hysinger had a really special guest, Sam Bush, who added a cookin' blues mandolin to their acoustic guitar and harmonica and they took Will's original blues to a new dimension.

Sam Bush, who is said to be one of the top five mandolin players in the world, showed us why he has garnered these praises. Never hearing the Perryman originals before, he jumped in and added his own special touch and it sounded as if he'd been playing them all his life. They really had the crowd going on Perryman's "Don't Be Mad at Me" and brought the house down with "You're 'A Chocolate Cookie Baby But You Bring Out the Boogieln Me. "

What's the chance of getting to hear something like this again??? Very good! Bush had such a good time he wants to join them again. Who knows where it might lead.

If scheduling can be arranged, there might be a replay-plus on March 22 and 23 at Air Devils. So stay tuned for more of 'the traveling SammieWill'n'Eddie show.
