The proceeds from the competition benefits the scholarship fund of St. Francis High School of Louisville.

There are two awards: the $3,000 grand prize goes to the overall winner. In addition, Ear X-tacy records has established a $1,000 Young People's Award for entrants under the age of 21.

Entries must be on tape and no longer than 15 minutes. The entry fee is $15 for each entry. The deadline for entries is December 16, 1991.

Judges will select four finalists who will perform on April 3, 1992, at an event hosted by the publisher of SPIN Magazine, Bob Guccione Jr. and Barry Bemson of WHASTV.
