Earl's Pearls
By Earl Meyers

I've never played drums enough to be good at it, with the short time I played band in school, but I do enjoy listening to someone who is. One who has done especially well and has recently been getting more attention is Kenny Aronoff, currently playing with John Mellencamp. "Paper in Fire" is a good example of a drummer who has a special feel for his work.

I also have a lot of admiration for Rick Allen who plays with Def Leppard. When he lost his left arm in a car accident, quitting was not part of his plan. Rather, his main concern was figuring out how to adapt by assisting in the development of a series of electronic foot pedal devices so that he could continue doing what he loves. I guess you could say Kenny and Rick both have a lot of fire.
