Roy Burns' Aquarian Day
at Mom's

By Robert Fiandaca

On Nov. 2, the drum department at Mom's Musician's General Store's presented a clinic featuring jazz drummer Roy Burns. Roy is president of Aquarian Accessories Inc., whose most recent product developments include Aquarian drum heads, cymbal springs, power sleeve drum sticks, hi-fi earplugs, cymbal and stick bags and bass drum impact pads.

Roy came to Mom's for an entire day to demonstrate Aquarian products and to meet local drummers on a one-on-one basis. He fielded questions concerning tuning, hi-hat technique, brush work and rudimental drum set playing.

It was a great experience for all who attended to meet one of the few living jazz legends of the '40s and '50s. Roy has played with the Benny Goodman big band, the Woody Herman band, and the Merv Griffin band, just to name a few. He has also published many books on drumming, including his latest, "The Best of Concepts," which will soon be available at Mom's.

The day was as much fun as it was a super educational event.
