A capacity crowd at the July 22 stop of Lollapalooza '94 at the Deer Creek Music Center (outside of Indianapolis) was a colorful crowd indeed -- with some Deadheads lingering from a recent three-day stand of the Grateful Dead mixing with alternative fans adorned with multi-colored hair and multi-pierced bodies. Funkmaster George Clinton and his P-Funk All-Stars (pictured above) took everyone above the "Mothership," evidently a place where musicians dress in costumes made from every color in the rainbow -- and then some. Headliner Smashing Pumpkins delivered a very transcendental and colorful show, and the Beastie Boys put on an energetic display that contained enough high vertical jumps to qualify them for the NBA. The Breeders, a sister act featuring Kim and Kelly Deal, deserve a "hard rock" award for their enthusiastic set. A Tribe Called Quest, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, L7, Green Day and Luscious Jackson also performed.
