Thinkin' About You (MCA)

Trisha Yearwood

By Michael W. 'Stout

Trisha Yearwood's latest MCA release, Thinkin About You, helps preserve the country-pop Nashville Sound that Patsy Cline built her career on. 'Regardless of the genre of music Yearwood performs, it's guaranteed to be a top-rate performance. 'This gal has a set of pipes that sounds as beautiful as those of an antique pipe organ. 'As the cliche says, she could sing the phone book and make it sound good. '

Thinkin' About You includes a few songs that don't quite make the mark, but Yearwood's incredible performance diverts your ear and attention, for the most part, from the weak lyrics of these tunes. Fortunately, these weak songs are greatly outnumbered by sure hits.

Yearwood's smash hit from last year, "XXX's And OOO's (An American Girl)," the theme song from the made-for-television movie "XXX's And OOO's," is included on this album due to popular demand, plus her current romantic single, "Thinkin' About You."

Yearwood really cuts loose on "The Restless Kind," a tune with a greasy bass line that you'll instantly fall in love with.

The true jewel among this collection of gems is the bittersweet ballad, "Till I Get It Right." In it, Yearwood sings, "If practice makes perfect, then I'm near about as perfect as I'l1 ever be in my life/ So I'lljust keep falling in love till I get it right."

Think about pickin' this one up because Thinkin About You won't let you down.
