these four women deserve lotsa respect
If you like bluegrass, this is a "must have" item: 45 minutes of musical satisfaction containing 15 songs. and not a weak one in the bunch. When I finished listening to these talented women, I was speechless. Their incredible musical talent and their powerful vocals have to be heard to be believed.
For some reason, women have a difficult time becoming established, recognized and appreciated in bluegrass. Well, I'll tell you one thing: If this group is given half a chance, you will hear from them for a long, long time.
Ramona Church Taylor's banjo Work and the driving force of Pam Perry's mandolin are consistently exceptional. When they cranked "Fireball Mail" into overdrive, they knocked my socks off. Dale Bradley's voice is clear and strong. in addition, her composition skills are evident in "Possum Kingdom." a fast-moving instrumental that also displays her solid guitar work. And when Taylor and Perry trade breaks, it is unbelievable. Throughout all the songs, the bass playing of Vicki Simmons is dependable and tasteful, never overbearing. Guest fiddler Deanie Richardson provides awless fills and solos. Hey folks, I'm not making this up. It is good! These are musicians who love bluegrass. and it shows.
Four tunes are originals, five are classics and six are like new friends. Every good bluegrass album has a gospel number or two and this one is no exception. The one here. "Stop, Look and Listen," might even become a classic.
The title cut, "L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore." is, of course. from the pen of Kentucky's national treasure. Jean Ritchie. Jean's powerful words combined with rich harmony from the New Coon Creek Girls almost takes your breath away.
