promises broken

Local (Universal)
Ho-Hum

By Kory Wilcoxson

If first impressions count for anything, chances are you'll take a liking to Ho-Hum. The first track, "Around the World," is immediately catchy and well-written, drawing the listener in comfortably.

Unfortunately, the band blows their wad earlier on Local, and the rest of the album drops a few notches below the standard set by the first few songs.

That's too bad, because the good tunes show a lot of promise. Both "Don't Go Out with Your Friends Tonight" and "Superhuman" are the other songs worth noting, and in both cases Ho-Hum takes a little bit off the edge of their other songs. For the band, maybe there is something to be learned there.
