Rock Crown (Atlantic)

Seven Mary Three

By Brent Starkey

More adult contemporary alternarock. Seven Mary Three hails from Florida and plays the same crap you can turn on MTV and hear most of the day. I can hear comparisons to R.E.M., late period, Who and even Starbilly, but none of it sticks in the head (due to a lack of good hooks). The somber, reflective "Times Like These" nearly hits the mark: "I could feel all the nerves in the tips of my teeth/As they crumbled into dust and washed into the sea/Finally shut my mouth so I could hear myself think." Ultimately though, the whole CD is a pretty big waste of time and will be sailing to a used-bin near you . . . soon.
