Celtic Corner
By Roz Carrothers

Greetings from the Celtic Corner! After many years, Decimus Rock has passed the torch of writing this column. Many thanks to him for his years of service, as well as for his help in providing me with contact information for the column. There is a lot of great music happening in the month of July! Here's the schedule for some of our groups:

Galloglas

Galloglas will be performing at the St. Michael's Ethnic Fair on July 13 and at the St. Agnes Parish Carnival on July 20. Both events always provide a lot of fun, it's nice to see that you can enjoy some good celtic music at the same time.

Ten Penny Bit

Ten Penny Bit has quite the roster of upcoming performances. They will be in the town square of Corydon, Indiana on July 6, at 8 p.m. On July 13, they will be performing at the Civil War Reenactment in Scottsburg Indiana from 8 p.m. to midnight. (Wear blue or gray at your own risk!) On July 20, they will be performing all day at Roscoe Village, in Coshocton, Ohio. They'll be back on home turf July 27-28, at our own Kentucky Music Weekend at Iroquios Park. Then they are back on the road, this time to Blue Ash Ohio (right outside of Cincy) where they will be performing from 7:30-9:30 with the McGing Irish Dancers on July 30. Whew! If you want more information on their many activities, visit their website at tenpennybit.com.

Silverwood

Silverwood has managed to combine two of my favorite activities: celtic music and shopping! They will be at the Summit Shopping Center, on July 13 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and again on July 20 from 5 - 7 p.m. Silverwood then manages another favorite combo of mine: celtic music and eating! They'll be in Theater Square on July 29 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., and again on August 14 at the same time, so grab your lunch and enjoy the outdoors.

Kitty O'Kirwans

Speaking of eating, Kitty O'Kirwans is having live music every Sunday evening this summer, from 7-9 p.m. Various local groups will be taking the stage, so call the restaurant to see when your favorite group will be performing. Then stop by for great food and great music.

Noel Hill Irish Concertina School

For those of you who think that summer means time to go to camp - right you are! If you are interested in the concertina, the Noel Hill Irish Concertina School will be held on August 18-23 in Cincinnati. The other camps for this school around the country have filled up already, so get your registration in if you are interested. You can email Noel Hill at midwest@noelhill.com.

The fires out west have meant bad news for the Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp. The first week is pending cancellation, while they check for other available sites to hold the camp.

Lunasa

For the folks who like to plan ahead, get your tickets for the concert on March 28 featuring Lunasa in the Bomhard Theater. Their first album was a best seller in Ireland, and it's clear that this will be a great evening of jamming Irish music, so don't wait to get your seat.

My sincere apologies to anyone left out of the column. Please email me with your group's dates at celticcorner@louisvillemusic.net, and I'll make sure to get you into future issues.
