Louisville Rock Closeup

Name/Nicknames: John Mayhew a.k.a. "J"

Age: 34

Instrument: Vocalist

Band/Former Bands: Been in many different bands currently 1/2 of the front of Slokill.

How Long On Instrument: Most of my life I played music guitar, bass, drums. Vocals for about two years.

Equipment: I'm a big fan of Shure microphones. I currently sing through a Behringer PA with no effects

Influences: My influences range from Slayer, Pantera, White Zombie, Snoop Dogg to Rage. The Chronic is my biggest influence.

First Gig: My first gig was at Woody's Tavern. Send out some props ta Rhonda and Mario!

Hobbies: My hobbies are playing PlayStation with my son and writing some kick-ass original rock from the VILLE and partyin' with the fans of the local rock scene.

Favorite Movies: I'm a big horror and action fan The "Saw" series is badass and can't forget the Jet Lis, the Jackie Chans and Bruce Lees.

Favorite Food: I would have to say I'm a steak and potatoes man - not much on rabbit food.

Favorite Place: My first favorite place is with my family and crazy-ass friends. My second would be on stage doin' shows for all the Slokillaz.

My Bad Habits: Typical bad habits include drinkin, smokin' and late-night drunken trips to White Castle.

What I'm Listening to Nowadays: I try to listen mainly to local rock. My boys Wasted Days' album is in rotation and the mad scientists of Institution, E flat kickin' ass and of course Slokill. Nationally, I'm diggin' Slipknot, System of a Down, Kottonmouth Kings.

Coolest Thing I've Done: Probably the coolest thing I've done is hitchhike to California. I had some hard times, but I wouldn't change it. I met some of the coolest people on the planet and had more fun than the law should and probably did allow.

Most Embarrassing Moment: My most embarrassing moment was at the Rustic Frog on New Year's Eve band battle last year. We were in the middle of the set with a crowded house and I fell backwards into the drum kit - sorry Rich Cash, thanks for having my back - but the fans didn't seem to mind and the show still went on.
