Bluegrass Beat
By Berk Bryant

I must apologize for this being a very abbreviated column this time. I must also thank some folks, starting with Michael Young of WFPK's Roots & Boots fame.

My wife Esther passed away somewhat unexpectedly on August 12 at approximately 9:15 - 9:30 p.m. I called Michael at 11 p.m., told him the situation, and asked if he would be able to keep Sunday Bluegrass [the program Berk hosts on WFPK from 8-11 p.m. each Sunday evening] going for the next two Sundays. Without any hesitation, Michael's answer was yes, and do you need anything?

I heard a good portion of the show that Sunday and I must say I had left the show in good hands. I knew that would be the case. I felt very good about the show. Thank you, Michael, thank you very much. A true friend.

Many sincere thanks go to so many listeners, friends, station personnel and other folks all over. Thanks for the calls, the e-mails and mail in general. I and my family are blessed by you. You all make my efforts on Sunday night worthwhile.

Bless you.
