Another American Idol Album

Audio Daydream (Arista Records)
Blake Lewis

By Kory Wilcoxson

There have been more albums by American Idol contestants than there have been bad movies based on Saturday Night Live skits and now last year's finalist Blake Lewis throws his dapper hat in the ring with Audio Daydream.

Lewis was a hit on AI, mainly because of his winsome personality and amazing beatbox skills (notice I didn't mention his singing). His debut album is an interesting mix of '80s synth rock and this decade's hip-hop state of mind. It's as if Rick Astley and Justin Timberlake had a baby and gave him lots of hair gel.

Ultimately, Daydream is likeable because you get the feeling Lewis is truly enjoying himself. Despite annoying titles like "What'cha Got 2 Lose?" most of the songs offer what'cha would expect: light pop with a dollop of beatboxing and scratching and a dash of PG-13 sexiness. We've heard worse from AI contestants, that's for sure.
